How we test

Rankings are only useful if you can check them. Here are the rules every BenchedTools ranking follows.

1. Same task for every tool

Each ranking answers one job, like "turn a long video into shorts." Every candidate gets the identical inputs (same source file, same prompt, same spec) and the same rules for follow-up fixes.

2. We publish the outputs

You see what each tool produced: the clips, the app, the screenshots, plus the settings we used. If you disagree with a ranking, you can judge the outputs yourself.

3. We report the real cost

We test on the cheapest plan that can complete the task and record what the run cost, including credits used. Pricing on every tool page shows the date it was checked and links to the official source.

4. Every result has a test date

AI tools change monthly. Each result shows when it was tested and which version or model was used. Stale results get re-tested.

5. Paid placements never affect rankings

Tool makers can pay for a faster review, not a better result. Any sponsored placement is labeled and kept separate from rankings. Some tool links are affiliate links; see our disclosure.

Where we are today

Testing in progress. BenchedTools is new. Round 1 of the long-video-to-shorts ranking (Oct 18, 2026) has partial, measured scores for three tools, and no winner has been named. Our other ranking has no scores yet. Untested tools are listed as candidates only.

FAQ

Do tools pay to be ranked?

No. Paid placements, sponsorships and fast-track submission fees never affect rankings or scores. Sponsored placements, if we add them, will always be labeled.

Do you use affiliate links?

Yes, for some tools. Those links are disclosed on the tool page and listed on our disclosure page (/disclosure/). Tools without an affiliate program are tested and ranked the same way, and commissions never affect scores.

How often do you re-test?

Each ranking shows its test date. We plan to re-test when a tool ships a major update, or at least every 90 days.
